Wolfgang-Hahn-Preis 2024:
Anna Boghiguian

Anna Boghiguian (*1946 in Cairo, Egypt) has been awarded the 30th Wolfgang Hahn Prize by the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig in 2024. The artist sensitively observes human existence and translates it into figurative murals, drawings, paintings and sculptures. For the Museum Ludwig, she has designed a site-specific installation based on historical material: “A Poem” draws on the poem “The Battle of Magnesia” (1913) and other writings by the poet Konstantin Kavafis (1863-1933). Boghiguian combines these with sculptures, cut-outs and drawings to create an expressive and direct depiction that reveals references to the present day. Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, guest juror, elaborates on the prizewinner: “The poetry and uniqueness of her work as well as its directness and expressiveness are an ideal match for the Museum Ludwig’s collection and its strong expressionist positions.”

The publication of the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst presents the artist Anna Boghiguian and her work with a laudatory speech by guest juror Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and an interview with the artist and Yilmaz Dziewior, a short biography and numerous illustrations.

The publication was edited by Pia Gamon, Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig e.V. (Cologne 2024, 96 pages with 41 color illustrations), retail price: 14.80 euros, plus shipping costs.
