In close collaboration with the artist, three motifs have been selected from Katz’s Havelhöhe series that not only document the everyday of the patients at the Havelhöhe hospital in Berlin but are also characterized by a unique artistic perspective. At the same time, Katz’s works are a sociohistorical document: the architectural views can be understood as a reference to changing social appropriations of architecture. The buildings were erected during National Socialism for the regime’s Reichsakademie and for training soldiers.
Here, Katz succeeds in photographically recording a unique moment far removed from his hospital stay. In an almost humorous fashion, the artist captures the gaze of a squirrel in an impressive close-up shot.
